Support Kontides’ Road to Rio 2016

Pavlos Kontides is a 24-year-old athlete in sailing, Laser Class. He comes from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and has been sailing since he was 9 years old. First as a hobby, and then as a professional path, sailing became his passion and lifestyle. His determination and desire for excellence led to a handful of early successes: at the age of 17 he won his first gold medal at the ISAF Youth World’s Championship, and at age 18 he repeated his achievement, becoming the only sailor who ever won gold medal in Laser Class twice!

The years to follow were a path of success which culminated in the London 2012 Olympic Games: Pavlos won silver medal in sailing and became the first ever Olympic medalist of Cyprus. Constantly aiming higher, Pavlos has started his preparation for the next Olympic Games in Rio 2016. In September 2014 the ISAF World Championship will take place in Santander, Spain, and will be the first Olympic Qualifier for Rio 2016, and the first step to his next big triumph.

Amongst the economic crisis in Cyprus, Pavlos needs your support toward his dream:  for this first stop in Santander 50 000 USD will be needed, and the budget will grow much higher until he reaches Rio. Every little contribution is important to help him achieve the ultimate goal: the 1st ever Olympic Gold Medal for Cyprus. And, as a token of appreciation, for every donation there will be a perk.

“This is not about me, it’s about the whole nation, it’s about Cypriots all over the world. Regardless how small we are in numbers, we have huge courage and strength. Difficulties are always there to stop us or slow us down, but we love to face big challenges. When there is a will, there is a way.”
