First Ninjutsu seminar by Dr. Kacem Zoughari in Cyprus

On the 16th and 17th of October the first Ninjutsu seminar by Dr. Kacem Zoughari was held In Cyprus.  He is a very well-known historian and martial artist with a deep and detailed knowledge, making him one of the most famous teachers in ninjutsu and bujutsu (classical martial arts). He carries out seminars all around the world, training martial artists and members of the military. Dr. Zoughari spent most of his life in learning the Japanese language, history and martial arts directly from the best known living teachers Hatsumi Masaaki sōke and Ishizuka Tetsuji Daishihan. After a couple of decades of study, he went back to his native France and carried on teaching history at university. Furthermore, he has published various books, consulted for museums while also teaching martial arts in Dojos and private groups.

Ninjutsu is the art of endurance, perseverance and patience. It also includes aspects of secrecy and concealing of pain and intention. Historically there are a lot of schools that used different aspects of ninjutsu ‘s mindset tactics, strategies, etc….among them are the 9 schools of classical martial arts from the far east (Togakure Ryu, Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu, Koto Ryu Koppojutsu, KuKi Shinden Ryu Happo Hiken, Kumogakure Ryu ninjutsu, Gikan Ryu Ninjutsu, Shinden Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu, Gyokijshin Ryu Ninpo and Takagi Yoshin Jutaijutsu). It teaches you various techniques and weapons to be able to combat solo against various opponents with different styles.

The Cyprus seminar had a lot of support internationally, with participants from Greece, Italy, Netherlands, USA and of course Cyprus. The seminar was dedicated to the ancient techniques in bojutsu (long stick fights) and taijutsu (no weapons fights). The seminar was about shaping the known techniques and using the body in a more efficient way to be able to last long on the battlefield. Dr. Zoughari generously shared his knowledge and experience to help optimize the participant’s techniques with the correct posture, in combat but also in daily life. This is what makes ninjutsu so much different from all other competitive martial arts and combat techniques, saving energy, efficient movements and avoiding self-inflicted injuries.

This seminar would have not been possible without the support from our friends in Cyprus. Pierre Ann hotel, that hosted the event, provided a remarkable friendly and clean environment, lovely food and amazing views.  All the hospitality venues in Ayia Napa that we’re visited provided a nice atmosphere. Of course, we would also like to thank our Cyprus participants that provided hospitality, assistance and made all the guests feel at home.

Hopefully in the years to come this event will be regular, with more participants and continued success.

Big thank you to our sponsors YO THAI Asian Restaurant Ayia Napa, Pierre Ann Hotel Ayia Napa and Under Armour Cyprus for all year round support.
